Please note that the following sections are given as a guide to those lacking in practical experience, and are intended only as a 'guide', not the 'be all, and end all' of what you should, or shouldn't do. As such, I can accept no responsibility for actions taken based upon the information given in connection with any other system than my own. Any comments I make that are 'scientifically proven fact' will be stated as a definite issue, comments other than these will always be made clear by putting 'IMO' prior to any opinion. This means that the comment is based upon my own practical experience or is widely accepted within the hobby as being correct in most instances.

It is often said in reef keeping that you don't so much keep the 'reef' as keep the 'water'. This is quite true, and any successful reef keeper will agree with that statement. Once you learn to keep basic chemistry in check, and the ins and outs of what affects it, there is literally no limit to what you can do with a reef tank, even of modest proportions.
